Bryson conquers Pinehurst No. 2 and wins over the world
After three strong rounds of 67-69-67, Bryson found himself with a three shot lead over Rory McIlroy and Matthieu Pavon heading into the final round of the U.S. Open at Pinehurst.
A little over half-way into the final round, he was down two to the new leader Rory McIlroy.
Nerves around the green set in for both.
After a birdie on 13 that drew him level with Rory, Bryson would post his first 3-putt of the tournament on the par 3 15th, making bogey and falling one behind McIlroy.
Fortunately, the door opened back up as Rory would miss two 3 foot putts on the last three holes, posting a bogey on 16 and 18. With a wayward drive on 18, DeChambeau was able to get himself into the bunker 55 yards short of the pin. Only needing a par to win, he left himself with the shot that he’s previously said is, for him, the most difficult shot in the game.
He hit it inside four feet, made the putt, and claimed victory at Pinehurst. A multi-major winner.
Congratulations to Bryson!
Still not over this winning moment. Chills every time.
