DP World Tour
Horschel wins the BMW PGA Championship with a world class finish

With two holes to play, Billy Horschel was two shots back of Triston Lawrence. On top of that, Rory McIlroy would birdie the 17th to tie Lawrence, with a par 5 to play. Horschel would make birdie on 17, follow that up with birdie on 18 and with Rory making par, the trio would head to a playoff.

The 18th hole at Wentworth a tricky par 5 that only allows for around 290 off the tee. Thriston Lawrence would eliminate himself from the playoff on the first hole with a bogey after blocking himself off, hitting it into a fairway bunker, then spinning that shot off the green into the water. Rory found himself over the green in two and he’d get up and down to make birdie. Horschel would match with a tricky up and down from the greenside bunker. Playing 18 again, Billy and Rory both found the green in two and would each have about 30 feet for eagle. Rory just barely missed on the low side, and Billy hit his right in the middle of the hole to win on the second playoff hole.

Congratulations to Billy Horschel!

LIV Golf
Ripper GC are the 2024 LIV Golf Team Champions, but Iron Heads put up quite the fight

Not sure many of us had the 13th seed Iron Heads GC finishing in a tie for second at the LIV Golf Team Championship. In their first matchup Danny Lee defeated Talor Gooch 1 up in singles and Scott Vincent and Jinichiro Kozuma beat Graeme McDowell and Jason Kokrak in foursomes. The next day they’d clean sweep Bryson DeChambeau’s Crushers GC.

Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC had a bye to the semi finals where they’d beat Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC 2-1.

In the final round the four advancing teams are playing for the team championship, joining Iron Heads and Ripper were Dustin Johnson’s 4 Aces and Jon Rahm’s Legion XIII, though they were without their captain due to illness.

In a volatile final round that at times had all four teams within one shot, and other times had 4 Aces up four shots on the field, Ripper GC would come out on top. A late string of birdies from Lucas Herbert, Cam Smith, and Matt Jones gave them a comfortable lead heading into the final holes. In the end, they won by 3 shots over Iron Heads GC and 4 Aces GC, with Legion XIII finishing 5 shots back.

Congratulations to the Ripper GC team!
