PGA Tour
Scottie Scheffler picks up right where he left off - this time with a new putter grip!

It was business as usual for Scottie Scheffler after a nearly two month break. Which for Scottie, and Scottie only, means he won the Hero World Challenge by six strokes. This time, using the claw grip with the putter. While putting was the only flaw in Scottie’s game this year, it proved to not be that big of a flaw. If the claw is going to solve that, it’s going to feel a lot like 2024, and he’ll be winning everything.

Making just two bogeys over the course of 72 holes and finishing -25 is starting to feel like just another week for him as he continues his incredible form that carried him to a historic year in 2024.

While he entered the final round one shot back of Justin Thomas, Scottie’s final round of 63 was four strokes better than anybody in the field, and JT struggled on Sunday and closed with a 71.

Congratulations Scottie Scheffler!

This week on the PGA Tour:

Two events, sort of, on the PGA Tour this week. This week is the final stage of Q-School for the PGA Tour which is hosted at Dye’s Valley Course in Ponte Vedra Beach.

Additionally this week is the Grant Thornton Invitational, a mixed PGA Tour and LPGA Tour event hosted at Tiburon Golf Club. This is only the second year this event will be hosted, but it was interesting to watch last year when it was won by Jason Day and Lydia Ko!

DP World Tour
Johannes Veerman wins his second DP World Tour event in dramatic fashion at the Nedbank Golf Challenge!

It looked like it was going to be a true coming out story for the South African Aldrich Potgieter in “Africa’s Major” as he entered the final round with a three shot lead. Furthermore, Johannes Veerman wasn’t really in the conversation on Sunday morning as he was five shots back of the lead.

But conditions were tough and it’s golf, so anything can happen. Potgieter made two birdies and a double bogey on his opening nine, while Veerman made four birdies and two bogeys. The gap between the two had closed to three shots.

Potgieter then started to show some signs of faltering, as he’d make a triple bogey on the par 3 12th where he’d hit his tee shot in the bunker, hit that over the green, leave his chip short, and then two putt for the 6. Two birdies and a bogey from Veerman meant he’d enter the clubhouse with a share of the lead. Potgieter would end up with a 20 footer on the final hole to force a playoff, that would just slide by, meaning Veerman had won by one stroke.

This marks Johannes Veerman’s second win in 141 DP World Tour starts.

Congratulations to Johannes Veerman!

This week on the DP World Tour:

This week is the penultimate event of the Opening Swing for the DP World Tour’s 2025 season as they remain in South Africa for the Alfred Dunhill Championship. Last year this was won by Louis Oosthuizen, and he’ll be in the field looking to defend that title at Leopard Creek Country Club, one of the most beautiful venues the tour visits all year.

Asian Tour
Joaquin Niemann caps off a strong 2024 with a win at the Saudi International!

It looked like it was going to be smooth sailing for Joaquin Niemann who entered the back nine during the final round with a small cushion between him, Caleb Surratt, and Cameron Smith. He’d go on to miss two short putts and finish with a bogey on the 72nd hole putting him in a playoff with his two fellow LIV Golf players.

Cameron Smith looking to finally close out an event, as he’s finished inside the top 5 three of the last four weeks, and Caleb Surratt looking to win his first professional tournament, less than one year after turning pro to join Jon Rahm on LIV Golf.

The trio all had kick in birdies on their first playoff hole, so they’d head back to the tee. The second time through wasn’t as easy, as Caleb Surratt and Cameron Smith would leave themselves a little more meat on the bone than they’d like to make a second consecutive birdie, while Niemann would hit his approach to a foot or two again.

Both Surratt and Smith would miss the putt, leaving Niemann the tap in to claim his third individual title of the 2024 calendar year. This win also secured his spot atop the International Series Order of Merit. Additionally, John Catlin accumulated enough points and finished this year atop the Asian Tour Order of Merit, congratulations to him!

Congratulations Joaquin Niemann!

This week on the Asian Tour:

The Saudi International marked the conclusion of the 2024 Asian Tour season and it’s looking like the tour will pick back up in late January with the start of the International Series in India!
