Hideki starts off 2025 with a bang - breaks PGA Tour scoring record!
Two bogeys, two eagles, and thirty three birdies. Yes, that’s correct, thirty three birdies. The PGA Tour’s previous scoring record was held by Cameron Smith which was also from Kapalua, in 2022.
Opening rounds of 65-65 gave Hideki Matsuyama a one stroke lead over Collin Morikawa after the first two rounds of The Sentry. After a blazing third round of 62, he’d STILL just have a one stroke lead over Collin. However Hideki would finally be able to find some breathing room after his third hole on Sunday. After his tee shot on the 417 yard par 4, he had 107 yards into the green. He’d hole the shot and put himself up three shots. A lead he’d hold on to, and finish with to claim his 11th PGA Tour victory.

This win jumps Hideki to inside the top 10 on DataGolf’s rankings, and if this performance is the start of a return to what we all know is possible from him, he’ll continue climbing even higher.
Congratulations to Hideki Matsuyama!
This week on the PGA Tour:
The PGA Tour stays in Hawaii this week for the Sony Open. It’ll be an emotional week on tour as last year this was won by Grayson Murray before his passing in May of 2024. It was his last, and most significant win as a professional.
This event is held at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu, Hawaii.
