PGA TOUR
Grayson Murray takes home the Sony Open in Hawaii!

Saying that Grayson Murray has had a tough ride the past decade or so would be quite the understatement. From struggles with sobriety, a near death accident, fighting internal battles at the PGA Tour, and more. It’s great to see him fully complete the comeback as he wins the Sony Open in an exciting playoff. He birdied the final hole to force a playtoff with Keegan Bradley and Byeong Hun An, then birdied it again immediately after to win the tournament.

The nearly 40 foot putt he made in the playoff secures his spot in all of this year’s signature events on the PGA Tour. Congrats to Grayson, and good luck for the rest of this year!

What’s next on the PGA Tour?

This week’s event on the PGA Tour is The American Express. This event is unique in that the first 3 rounds are played at different courses. The tournament features the Pete Dye Stadium Course, La Quinta Country Club, and the Nicklaus Tournament Course. Each player plays one round at each course and then there is a 54-hole cut, and the last round is played at the Pete Dye Stadium Course. This event is also a pro-am, so each pro is paired with an amateur for the first three rounds!

DP World Tour
Fleetwood wins in Dubai!

An incredible finish on the DP World Tour! It looked like Tommy Fleetwood was going to let this one slip away as he made a bogey on the 16th hole to go down one shot, but he immediately bounced back on 17 with a birdie. However, Rory matched this and took a 1 shot lead into the 18th. Rory proceeded to pull hook his drive into the water, opening the door for Tommy. He got himself in great position with a 15 foot birdie putt, and sank it for the win. Rory’s two costly mistakes on the back 9 likely cost him the win here. On 14 he had a 3-putt from just 2.5 feet, and then the water ball on 18. A fantastic win for Tommy is the start to what I expect to be a fantastic season! Congrats to him for taking home the Dubai Invitational!

Thirston Lawrence was also very impressive as he posted a -7 final round to tie for second place!

What’s next on the DP World Tour?

The DP World Tour’s International Swing continues this week as the tour stays in Dubai for the Hero Dubai Desert Classic as Rory McIlroy attempts to defend his title from 2023 at Emirates GC. Fleetwood also joins the field as he looks to win back-to-back events. Additionally, the field includes Tyrell Hatton, Rasmus Hojgaard, Thirston Lawrence, Joaquin Niemann, Brian Harman, Cameron Young, Adam Scott and more!

LIV Golf
Rahm’s New Team and a Potential Major Signing

LIV’s offseason kicks into high gear as we learn that Jon Rahm’s team will be named “Legion XIII”, a reference to a group of Roman Soldiers with significant influence over what is modern day Spain and Portugal. No logo has been spotted yet, but I’ve heard from those that have seen it that the branding is excellent.

Expected to be joining his team for the 2024 season is top amateur from the University of Tennessee Caleb Suratt. Jon believes that he is one of golf’s next great players and specifically picked him to play on his team. LIV Golf is in ongoing negotiations to fill the remaining spot on his team with 2023 U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark. We’ll have to wait and see if the two parties are ablet o agree on a deal. If they are, Jon’s Legion XIII will be one of the strongest rosters in the league.

What’s next for LIV Golf?

Next on the slate for LIV Golf is finalizing the last few roster spots, formally announcing Jon Rahm’s team name and logo, and gearing up for the season launch in Mayakoba. Just a few weeks left to get all of that sorted, to keep an eye out for more news soon from LIV.
